ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT!
We’re so excited! (and we just can’t hide it!)
After months of planning – and of me staring longingly at the huge map on my wall, idly caressing the border of Kansas and Nebraska with my index finger – we here at WTF?! are finally hitting the road! Well…I am, as our resident travel addict. Along with some very special friends.
Read on.
In the next six months, we’ll be heading to 20+ cities all over America. From Texas to California to Wyoming to Georgia to Maine to South Dakota to Wisconsin (to Hawaii???), we’re aiming to hit every corner, crevice and massive expanse of land in this great nation. But this isn’t going to just be your brother’s dirty post-college roadtrip.
Happy hours. Blog readings. Q&A sessions. Free t-shirts. Dinner parties. On-camera conversations with locals at events like the ACL Music Festival, X Games and Sundance. Stickers. Viral videos of me and Becky dressed as Disney princesses in the Magic Kingdom, asking Goofy, “WTF Is Up With YOUR Love Life?!”
And most importantly – sit-down interviews. With you. For my book. And for our movie.
I’ll buy the coffee and wine. You just worry about sharing your stories with me!
Want to be involved? Oh good, I thought so. Here’s how.
Starting on October 7th in Austin, TX, I’ll be coming to your hometown (or somewhere pretty close to it!) with the main purpose of conducting interviews for the upcoming WTF?! book. Armed with a flexible template of interview questions that I’m currently developing with Dr. Brian Fallon, a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Director of two research centers at Columbia University, I’m going to sit down with you for about 45 minutes – or longer, if we’re having fun! – and ask you about your love life. Your stories, your frustrations, your successes, your failures, your questions, your theories, your hopes, your dreams…your experiences in the post-dating world!
Trust me, I know alllll about my love life. And Becky’s, too. Now I want to hear about yours.
I’ll plan to use some of your tales in the book, surely. But I’ll also be trying to further define the threads of similarity that bind us all together at the moment, across the country, in this unique time of romantic ambiguity and rule-breaking. We’ll start with the ideas of non-dating, techno-romance and the gaggle and move forward from there. I want to take the lessons that you’ve learned about modern romance (even if you haven’t realized what they are yet!) and share them with the rest of us post-daters out there. This site was – and will continue to be – the first piece of that journey. But the next step will involve me and you sitting in a cute little local spot, dishing about dudes.
Anonymously, if you’d prefer. All names can be changed to protect the ambiguously innocent!
Gentlemen, what is that I’m hearing? You have opinions and stories too? Fair enough! I’ll be interviewing both women and men on the tour. Let’s all help each other figure this out, okay?
So if you or anyone you know would like to be interviewed for the book, hit me up at WTF@WTFIsUpWithMyLoveLife.com. I’ll stop by any town where I can secure ten interviews or more – you’ll find constant updates for the tour schedule in the “WTF?! Are We Going?” tab on the main page of this site.
You provide the interviewees, and I’ll provide the WTF?! gaggle silly bandz! (nope, not a joke)
And that’s not all. In an effort to build community amongst you – our awesome readers – we’ll be hosting a series of events in every city we hit.
***We’ll have a blog reading at a local bookstore, where you’ll also get a chance to ask me questions during a Q&A and seek advice during an anonymous group-wide Ask Jess session (start thinking about what pressing query you want to put in the hat that we’ll be passing around!).
***We’ll throw a WTF?! Happy Hour party at a fun bar in the neighborhood, complete with drink specials, raffles, free WTF?! swag and opportunities to discuss and debate the WTF?! ideas out loud and in person.
***We’ll stop by local events and hotspots and shove a camera in unsuspecting people’s faces as we ask them, “WTF Is Up With YOUR Love Life?” Even if you’re not on the road with us, you’ll be able to catch these WTF?! Goes Viral MTV-style videos here on the site. You’ll feel like you’re part of the touring team!
***We’ll coordinate WTF?! Dinner Parties for some of our regular readers who’d like to talk, laugh and cry together over some home-cooked deliciousness.
It’s all going to be as ridiculous and insane as it sounds. We’d have it no other way.
But…who is this “we” that I keep mentioning?
Well, you know me. I’ll be at every tour stop – seeing as I’m the author of the book. The interviews with be just you + me. No eavesdroppers allowed!
And you might’ve heard of this Becky chick. She’ll be picking and choosing what tour stops she attends. Convince her that she should fly out for yours! Don’t you want to hear those f*cked up non-dating stories in person??
Next up is West, our Design & Marketing Strategist. Impressed by how nice this website is? Excited to see what the WTF?! t-shirts, stickers, coasters and silly bandz look like? Wondering where the best happy hour is at this very moment, on your very street? West is your girl. Meet her – and pick up some of the amazing WTF?! goodies that she has designed – at select tour locations!
And finally, because any group of women that doesn’t include a cute girl with an accent is useless, we have Loren, our Publicist & Tour Manager. Thanks for sending this one over, South Africa. Loren will be handling the publicity, events and reader outreach for the tour, as well as coordinating and producing all our video features. Basically, she’ll be doing all the work while I sit with you and chat all day. SWEET! Expect to see a lot of her on the road.
And there you have it! Does this sound like a freakin’ blast, or what?!
But at the end of the day, this tour is all about you, and me, and the awesome book that we’re going to write together. So talk to me. Tell me if you want to be interviewed, or if you know 12 friends who want to be included, or if you have suggestions for funky bookstores and cool bars in your area. Offer me a couch, or a juicy romantic tidbit, or a hug. However you want to be involved, that’s how we’ll loop you in.
Holler! WTF@WTFIsUpWithMyLoveLife.com
First stop: TEXAS!
Austin 10/7-10/11

I’ll see you there…
Jess is the co-creator of The Gaggle, alongside her childhood best friend Becky Wiegand, and is the author of the book - yep! - The Gaggle. She never tires of hearing your post-dating stories. She wants you to enjoy your love life, and is full of advice on how to do so.
The-Gaggle.com is a website that explores modern romance in the Millennial era – which, let’s be honest, looks nothing like we were taught to expect. We feature essays, advice and social commentary with humor, compassion and brains, and we vow never, ever to publish a piece called “The 10 Best Ways to Satisfy Your Man in Bed”. Do click here to submit your work to us. We love you.
